about

The Lightning Kids return with their brand new single 'Youth' on Friday 20th October on Aztec Records.

Following the success of debut album 'All Of Those Nights' (and remix album 'FM'), gathering strong reviews in the Synthwave & Retrowave community, becoming a tik-tok sensation and over 1m+ album streams, The Lightning Kids introduced a nostalgic, sun-kissed Californian sound of endless Long-Lost summer nights, described as 'Retrowave's answer to London Grammar'

Following a summer of collaborations & remixes, The Lightning Kids unveil their first new music since their debut album with the up-tempo, anthemic 'Youth'.

Set against a backdrop of lost highway sunsets, fast cars and chaotic, reckless adventures of youthful love and desire, YOUTH mixes a soundscape that references classic 1980's U2, Roxette with Chvrches and M83.

Youth is written and produced by The Lightning Kids, with additional production, mixing and mastering from Brian Skeel. Youth includes saxophone played by The 1975's John Waugh.

The Lightning Kids are singer Emma Ballantine, guitarist/producer Darryn McHardie & songwriter/producer Jonny Spalding

[LYRICS]

Wake up...

Maybe we’re young, Maybe we’re crazy
Out on the freeway
I’m running away with you
Maybe we’re lost, maybe we’re foolish,
i’m gonna prove it, running away from you

All this time, I’m somebody else
I’ve been playing the good girl
denying myself
I’ve been outta my heart, so lost in my head
Half dead, I said, what the world expected

All this time, I’m somebody else
I’ve been playing the good girl
denying myself
I’ve been outta my heart, so lost in my head
Half dead, I said, what the world expected

I wanna run
I wanna run away
Kick off my shoes
Got nothing to lose anyway
I wanna run
I wanna run away
Kick off my shoes
Got nothing to lose anyway

Maybe it’s youth, maybe it’s danger
Dancing with strangers
Running away with you

All this time, I’m somebody else
I’ve been playing the good girl
denying myself
I’ve been outta my heart, so lost in my head
Half dead, I said, what the world expected

All this time, I’m somebody else
I’ve been playing the good girl
denying myself
I’ve been outta my heart, so lost in my head
Half dead, I said, what the world expected

I wanna run
I wanna run away
Kick off my shoes
Got nothing to lose anyway
I wanna run
I wanna run away
Kick off my shoes
Got nothing to lose anyway
